This new live/work community will be made up of retail, office, condos and townhomes. Roofs slope inward instead of out. The facade is made of metal, not brick. Rooms jut out at sharp angles.
The contemporary, European-inspired design is meant to give people a swift jolt, developer Steve Neighbors said.
"To really ignite Main Street, we just really needed to do something bold," said Neighbors, the president of the Home Co. of Middle Tennessee, a nonprofit firm that specializes in revitalization projects.
5th & Main is nothing, if not that. The project, which opens this summer, is most likely the biggest ever in East Nashville. The first phase alone is priced at $47 million and will have 118 condos, 11 townhouses and 19,000 square feet of retail space. Two more phases will follow.
